What is a Livery Company?

There are 113 livery companies of the City of London. Most date back to the middle ages and represent an ancient craft, trade association or guild, such as Ironmongers, but there are also modern ones, such as Information Technologists, Cooks and Management Consultants. London’s Livery Companies play an important part in City life, not only providing charitable support and maintaining their crafts, but also as part of the governance of the City of London. Liverymen retain voting rights for the senior civic offices, such as the Lord Mayor, Sheriffs, and City Of London Corporation. For further information visit:

Is it possible to hire Dyers' Hall for an event?

Yes, it is possible to hire Dyers’ Hall for an event. The hall seats 60 people comfortably around a horseshoe-shaped table and has full on-site catering facilities. Please contact our Hall Keeper for further information hallkeeper@dyerscompany.com

How can I find out more about the Dyers' Almshouses?

The Almshouses provide accommodation for retired people of modest means, which is generally understood to mean those in receipt of housing and / or other benefits. Each almshouse is suitable for either a couple or single person. If you would like further information please complete the form on the Almshouses page.

I am doing a research paper on The Craft of Dyeing and want to find out more about the role of The Dyers' Company - Who should I contact?

I am looking to raise funds for a charity or organisation, how can I reach the right person?

The Dyers’ Company does not accept unsolicited approaches for grants. Members of the Company suggest charities for consideration and act as their sponsor; in this way we maintain an ongoing relationship with the recipient organisations, and the Company currently supports some 150 UK charities.

Can I find out if one of my forebears was a member of The Dyers' Company?
