The Dyers’ Company provides an annual grant of £25,000, for academics to support their research into dyes and dyeing technology.

The grant may be used to invest in extra resource for research projects, which may take the form of purchase of new equipment or materials, temporary hiring of human resource or dissemination of research work.

Our research grant application window is now closed, please check back in Autumn 2027 for the next round.

The Dyers’ Company Innovation in Colour Medal and Prize

We are delighted to announce that SwitchDye is the winner of the inaugural Dyers’ Company Innovation in Colour Medal and Prize.

The award attracted an impressive calibre of applications, with entries demonstrating the breadth of innovation taking place in colour, from research-led developments to practical industry applications. The judges were highly impressed by the quality, creativity and ambition shown across the submissions.

Born from a vision at the University of Leeds and developed through a decade of research and innovation, SwitchDye offers a groundbreaking approach to polyester dyeing. Its CO₂-responsive technology eliminates the need for up to 90% of the chemicals traditionally used in the process, delivering vibrant colours and excellent performance while offering a more sustainable solution for the textile industry.

Congratulations to the SwitchDye team and sincere thanks to all applicants for the outstanding innovation showcased in this inaugural award.

The Dyers’ Company Research Medal

This is awarded annually to what is judged to be the most worthy research-oriented paper which has been published during the previous twelve months in the journal published by the Society of Dyers & Colourists, in collaboration with Wiley, entitled Coloration Technology.
