Back to NewsOur Immediate Past Prime Warden, Jamie Cawley, his wife and members of the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) gathered in York on 8 November, for the annual Day of Celebration.
This event recognises outstanding contributions across various sectors, from education and research to design and technical excellence. The day began with a networking event, where all International Design Competition finalists displayed their work, and members could mingle to discuss the designs. The 2024 winner was Sasipim Sonpavorapong of Raffles College of Higher Education, Singapore. Additional exhibits focused on Malcolm the Weaver, elements of the SDC archive, and six timelines representing various areas of SDC activity over its 140-year history.
A key highlight of the event was the presentation of the prestigious SDC Global Colourist Award sponsored by Advanced Colour and Chemicals. This accolade, designed to honour early-career professionals who exhibit exceptional talent and dedication, was awarded to Joanna Kay ASDC of Heathcoat Fabrics Ltd. Joanna was lauded for her technical expertise, creativity, and determination to complete the Associateship of the SDC qualification while working full-time.
The nurturing of young minds is a key element of the SDC’s work and young people who had passed their examinations towards the Textile Coloration Certificate qualification were presented with their certificates.
The day ended with the President’s dinner where a glass or two of wine was raised to end another successful year for the SDC.
